How to Stay Happy in Your Hustle

They say good things happen to those who hustle. We all need to hustle to reach our goals. But there’s a fine line between hard work and overwork. Hustle is often glamorized on social media, people telling us that the only way we can get far is if we work long hours and wake up at 5am the next day, that the hunger, the eagerness, the drive to succeed is the only formula we need to win at life. We do need to stay motivated and disciplined, but we also need to stay balanced.

“Balance equals happiness.”

Take it from Cary Jack, the author of book The Happy Hustle. Too much of something isn’t good for you. Achieving balance in all aspects of your life allows you to stay happy and healthy inside and out.

This begs the question, how do you know when your life needs balance? 

Here’s an exercise that you can do to gauge your level of balance.

SOULMAPPIN is Cary Jack’s list of alignments that can help you get closer to having a more balanced life. Rate yourself from 1-5, with 5 meaning you’re doing well, and 1 meaning you need to work on this area more:

Selfless Service – Are you helping those who are in need? Are you giving back to the community? Are you serving others through giving them your time, talent, or treasure? 

Optimized Health – Are you eating healthy? Are you getting enough rest? Are you engaging in physical activities to keep your body active?

Unplug Digitally – Do you rest your mind and take breaks from social media or your electronic devices?

Loving relationships – Do you build and maintain loving relationships with the people around you, your family, your significant other, your friends and your colleagues?

Mindful Spirituality – Do you connect with your spiritual side in prayer, breathwork or meditation? 

Abundance Financially – Are you spending, saving, and investing wisely? Are you financially free? 

Personal Development – Are you striving to be a better version of yourself every day? Do you welcome new ideas that can help you grow as an individual? Do you apply those ideas to your daily life?

Passionate Hobbies – Do you make time to do the things you love?

Impactful Work – Are you creating an impact with the work that you do?

Nature Connection – Are you connecting with Mother Nature? Are you helping to protect the planet? Do you care for the environment?

Your 10 Alignments

Now that you have rated yourself, you’ll know which areas you’re doing well at, and which ones need improvement. It helps to know where you are now, because what you can measure, you can manage.

The secret to getting a good rating on these 10 alignments isn’t juggling them all at once. All you need to do is to focus on one alignment at a time and give it your 100%. 

Giving each of these alignments equal effort and equal value is the start of your journey to a more balanced life.
